Richter Rauser

Hello everyone, welcome to the April Richter Rauser update.

Our hero Zdenko Kozul payed the price for predictabilty as his opponent Zelcic cooked up something nice in FED465. Black has improvements though.

Sedlak - Damljanovic is a more solid approach in the same variation.

Black's opening in Topalov - Kramnik is becoming a real weapon.

Adding another line to black's arsenal, Pavlovic - Damljanovic and Ziatdinov - Fedorowicz are worth a look. Enjoy!!

Paulsen/ Taimanov

This month's Paulsen-Kan update sees some fresh stuff.

Start out with Ivanchuk - Lautier where white wins in a Taimanov. 13 Bd4 looks good.

...Qb6! strikes again in Enders - Gallagher. White's opening can be described as shaky at best.

Vukovic - Ionescu is how not to play as white.

Shirov - Ljubojevic is a strange one. It seems black forgot something, and Shirov completes the job.

Lautier - Gelfand should be a bit better and in Bojovic - Skripchenko black lost her way in the solid variation.

Najdorf

In this month's Najdorf update we see that Kasparov continues to roll. Check both Anand-Kasparov games, FED473 and FED475. The one where he wins is impressive.

White did well in both Topalov - Ivanchuk and Nijboer - Van Blitterswijk.

The move 10 h3 is giving black a lot of trouble and that's what happened in Shirov - Gelfand.

Scheveningen/ English Attack

This April update sees Kasparov abuse Woitjkiewicz. Black has many appealing ideas, but not this.

In Anand - Ljubojevic black looks ok then gets routed.

We round it out with Topalov - Gelfand. It's very topical and unclear. My feeling is black's ok.

This B54-59 update sees Velimirovic treat Sedlak shabbily in FED462 after his inaccurate opening play.

In Bajkovic - Stajic black plays a weird move order. White doesn't take advantage then it tranposes into something ok for black.

Mezentsev - Lobo might be white's best. Back to the future. Fischer's ideas live on.

Sveshnikov/ Kalashnikov

It's a light month in the B32 to B33 Svesnikov-Lasker Pelikan update.

In FED455. the first of our Pelikans, we see Krasenkov handle Wang Pin's treatment effortlessly. I wouldn't touch white's opening with a 10 foot pole!

Shirov defeats Lautier in a old b5 bishop sac. Lautier forgot the theory and got mated.

In FED454. our only Kalishnikov, Shabalov defeats Stearns with black, but white's opening is worth a look.
