Experience 1 e4 e5 with Mr MO!
(Update no.36, September 2002)
Announcement
The e-pawn emperor's next e4-e5 'monthly update' (for October) will very likely be posted at www.chesspublishing.com in November (to include games from the forthcoming Bled Olympiad), and in the meantime he will, as always, reply personally to as many e-mail messages as possible which come to MrMo@ChessPublishing.com. Right now, though, on our Internet site there's a tasty new collection of fresh games with some sneaky embedded puzzles waiting to bring you endless hours of enjoyment in a juicy September update.
All this month's new games are easily downloaded in PGN format using ChessPub.exe, but Download PGN of September '02 1 e4 e5 games
New Highlights
Tons of fresh mouth-watering goodies await us, including a tremendous trio of games (namely G13.124-G13.126) involving the Ruy Lopez and a super set of stars such as Jaan Ehlvest, Gennadi Kuzmin, Luke McShane, Vassily Malinin, Jonathan Rowson, Ivan Sokolov,... In the following three diagrams the last three mentioned players really rock the opposition, with the stunning moves:
|
18...Bf4!
|
20 Bxc7!
|
and 34...Nxh3!.
Moving on now to the Petroff Defence, we have the super-GM clashes Leko-Adams (G7.30) and Grischuk-Adams (G7.31) in which White triumphs twice, aided in the latter battle by the key tactical shot 26 h5! that definitely deserves its diagram here:

Another dynamic duo of games, this time featuring the ever-exciting King's Gambit, is Hoeksema-S.Ernst (G4.56) and S.Ernst-Brenninkmeijer (G4.57). And that's not all. 'The Ponziani' pounces for a quick 1-0 kill in Upton-Akca (G8.9), but Black strikes back to scorch 'The Scotch' in Minyeyevtsev-Lacrosse (G9.32).
Still not had enough yet?! Alright then. Lammens-Safin (G11.23) is a Four Knights Game that will keep you satisfied all (k)night long!
Now you know what to expect. So, full speed ahead, and enjoy the feast!
Very Best Wishes,
Yours Sincerely,
Paul Motwani.
