Fedorchuk - Timofeev: Although it's potentially not that exciting for a Dragon player I am surprised that this 9 0-0-0 d5 variation doesn't get more exposure than it does. All the evidence so far seems to be in favour of Black obtaining a reasonably comfortable draw. Yes it could really be that White is in need of a boost against 12...Nxc3 in order to retain 9 0-0-0 as a serious weapon:

Dominguez Perez-Carlsen: This game sees the Chinese variation doing the business again. The Cuban GM is no mug but the more I look at this game the more impressed I am with the young superstar.
|
Another awesome performance and superb demonstration of how to handle the Black side of the Dragon.
Perpinya Rofes-Fluvia Poyatos: It's a while since we've taken a look at the 8 Bc4 intending Qe2 variation and actually if this game is anything to go on, it could be a while before we see it again!
|
All the same, clear similarities with the Chinese variation and a nice game.
Tsanas - Pixton: I always take note when reasonably high rated players wheel out my old favourite the ...Qa5 variation, just to see if they are bringing anything new to the table. Here White does employ one of the critical lines and actually Black doesn't disappoint. However the jury remains out on this risky Black queen sortie.

Kamsky - Carlsen: It is notable that many strong players are turning away from the Yugoslav Attack to try and prove an advantage but I firmly believe that they have their work cut out for them. Although it was only a rapidplay game, Magnus will be disappointed to not to at least have come away from this one with a share of the wares.
Dvoirys - Kuzubov: Finally a 100% genuine novelty in the Maroczy Bind and one that reaps dividends. Two strong players are involved so watch this space for more on the 11 c5!? that definitely offers something a little different:
