What's New in June 2004
As well as monitoring any interesting Dragon developments and answering your mail I've decided to revisit and update some of the sites lesser annotated games. Chris |
To download the June '04 Dragon Sicilian games directly in PGN form click here:
I have two of those this month:
Mueller - Berndt: I've inserted some annotations in this 1998 9 0-0-0 d5 10 Qe1 encounter:
|
which in particular focuses on the move 17 Qe3. Yes I know we get really deep here but that is because...
Kobalia - Petrosian: saw 17 Nd5 instead:
|
Just a blitz game but of a high quality and discussed here amongst other things are other 17th move divergences too.
Christensen - Ward: This game of mine is also a replacement. Bearing in mind last month's topic of sacrificing the exchange on c3 (well let's face it that whole concept never really leaves!) I thought it educational to bring it back into play.
|
Black to move ...
Benderac - Prelevic: Not for the squeamish, this shows what can happen when Black is shy about parting company with the aforementioned rook!
Carvalho da Silva-De Costa Junior: Goody, it's 'Chinese Dragon' time again and with the help of a novelty by one of our regular contributors, in a popular variation:
|
it looks as though Black can force more than a draw.
Zickau - Goerke: Rounding off a bad month for White (on this site at least) a Classical Dragon where White sets out to play solid but things go horribly wrong!
|
Here Black grabs the bishop pair.
Ersahin - Bakalarz: More Dragon hacking and this time it's in the Accelerated Dragon with 8 e5:
|
Oh those bishops!
I'll be back before you know it.
Best wishes,
Chris
