Hi guys!
I have noticed that there have been some very high profile encounters ultra recently that could well appear in the next update, but we also have a treat here and now for you:

Yugoslav Attack 9 0-0-0 Bd7 [B76]

Yes, the encounter Zhou - Pert is an entertaining 9 0-0-0 Bd7 style Yugoslav attack with 12...b5!?:

and as a bonus this month you can see it annotated by our resident expert Gawain Jones, and you can also see how it was viewed by the victor himself Richard Pert (Zhou - Pert)!. No doubt comparing the two opinions will be interesting too!

9 0-0-0 d5 10 exd5 [B76]

Still with 9 0-0-0 the game Alekseev - Lintchevski is in the 9...d5 line with 12...Nxc3:

I have to say that this isn't a very exciting variation for Black players seeking the full point but it seems to be a good way to go when happy with a draw. White is proving very little here.

9 Bc4 irregular 10...Qc7 [B78]

Gawain also takes a rare trip into an offbeat 9 Bc4 line :

questioning in Kekelidze - Gorman whether we should be giving this more air time.

Soltis Variation [B78]

Then, though, it's back to a main line of a main line with White attempting an improvement over previous play of Radjabov with 18 Nd5 in the Soltis variation encounter Giri - Bosch:

Fascinating stuff!

Chinese Variation [B78]

In Draganic - Sedlak we see a first on this site for 12 Nde2 in the Chinese variation and well, if I'm honest, I don't think we'll see it again:

A very instructive game though as Black shows why it doesn't hurt to switch plans!

Accelerated Dragon - Maroczy Bind 6 Nc2 [B37]

Finally we move to the Accelerated Dragon and a rare chance for one of my own games to appear on the site, but with the white pieces. No, I wasn't expecting this opening and trying to recall over the board some of our theory, I plumped for an early Nc2 in the Maroczy Bind:

In Ward - Norinkeviciute I discovered how resilient Black's position can be and I can certainly count myself fortunate to have won.

Back real soon!

Best wishes, Chris and Gawain
