Hi everyone!

Definitely coming soon are 3 more Dragon book reviews but I'd still appreciate any subscriber comments about any texts that you guys may have scrutinised. That includes my own but of course you wouldn't really expect me to post it if it was unfavourable!

Anyway just as last time, the Grab Bag should be of interest this month too. Keep that mail coming.

As for the annotations, the move order question appears in the visual encounter Carvalho-Collas, SEP01/03.

In Plaskett-Gallagher, SEP01/02, the new British Champion also finds himself (by accident?) playing a Dragon in what turns into a rare Soltis variation.

Also in the 9 Bc4 Yugoslav Attack, Yeo-Tan, SEP01/05, sees White having the audacity to try and refute one of my own lines (fortunately I think he's failed!).

Funnily enough an old line featured in my first book re-appears in Rogovski-Golubev, SEP01/01. Black plays well for most of the game but doesn't quite manage to get the full point due to accurate defence.

The Maroczy Bind encounter is the interesting Accelerated Dragon Polgar-Felgaer, SEP01/04, and due to an interesting reader's observation I have updated the annotation of August's Fishbein-Kudrin, AUG01/04.

Well I'm off on my travels. First to Venezuela via Barbados for a World Championship zonal (coaching not playing!) and then to the World Youth in Spain. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any interesting tussles and I'll get back to you soon.

Regards

Chris

SEP01/01 An old trick revisited: Had White forgotten about an old line involving a trap for the queen or is there more to this variation than meets the eye?

Yugoslav 9 Bc4

SEP01/02 NOT a bad 'Yugoslav Attack': A quote from the new British Champion in an earlier book he had written isn't quite justified here!

SEP01/05 The exchange is the exchange!?: Doesn't quite have the same ring to it as a pawn is a pawn, but seeking an improvement on new theory, White seeks to demonstrate just that.

Accelerated Dragon

SEP01/04 'Donating' an isolated d-pawn: A pawn break saddles Black with a weakness but considerations elsewhere justify the decision.

Semi-Accelerated Dragon

SEP01/03 Clearing the files: Black does just that as he jettisons the odd pawn for rook activity. Then he jettisons the rooks for mate. Very nice!
