Grand Prix Attack 2000 Review

A c3 Sicilian pawn sacrifice

The c3 Sicilian continues to grow in popularity because it is a simple and easy to learn opening. However, people are always looking for something different which means it is worth having a look at a gambit line that involves the potential sacrifice of a piece or a pawn.

Hummel - Kuemin sees the continuation 1 e4 c5 2 c3 Nf6 3 e5 Nd5 4 d4 cxd4 5 cxd4 d6 6 Bc4 Nb6 7 Bb5+ Bd7 and now 8 e6 is a stunner.

This interesting line is also examined in Gradalski - Wegrowski where White wins easily.

Yesaulkov - Cherniav sees Black trying to avoid the continuation with 7…Nc6 and now 8 exd6 is a new way to try and seek an advantage. This is certainly a better try than 7…Nc6 which was met by 8 Nc3 in the game Rozentalis - Sadler when Black played forcefully to win a fine game.

Play the c3 Sicilian and sacrifice!
