Hello guys. This month we again have games in various different openings, and there are a few games in the Advance Caro-Kann with 3 ...c5. I also wanted to show you some more sharp games with tactics in rare lines. In some games we have a classic attack against a king stuck in the centre.

Scandinavian Defence 3.Nc3 Qa5 4.d4 Nf6 5.Bc4 Bg4 [B01]

Haring, F - Leenhouts, K was in a rare Scandinavian line with 5...Bg4 and after 10 moves there was already a new position:











Black decided to open the centre but after 16.Nb5 his king was left stuck in the centre. White developed his attack and soon gained a very big advantage but he nearly lost it later. The game was decided by a blunder and White won in the end.



Alekhine’s, Four Pawns Attack 6...Bf5 7.Nc3 e6 8.Nf3 Bb4 9.Be2 [B03]

In We, Y - Ma, Q we examine another Four Pawns Attack in Alekhine’s Defense. Black opted for a plan with 9...c5 and soon after White got a passed pawn on d6, although it was well blockaded:











Black offered a pawn with 21...e4, but when White took it suddenly it was clear that he was losing material and Black won the game.



Modern Defence 3...c6 4.h4 [B06]

Williams, D - Teclav, P was in a very rare line in the 3...c6 Modern with 4.h4:











White could have taken the initiative but he missed it and then Black did grab it with 11...Bf5!. The game become tactical and Black managed to gain an edge and later to win.



Caro-Kann, Short Variation 5.Be2 Nd7 6.0-0 a5 7.Nbd2 [B12]

Kantor, G - Tarhan, A was a Caro Kann Advance and Black went for the rare line with 6...a5:











White got the better development while the black king stayed in the centre. The game become sharp after 15.Qh3 but it was clearly in favor of White. Pieces were taken on every move and in the end, when the dust settled, White was material up with an attack and soon won.


Caro-Kann Advance 3...c5 4.dxc5 e6 5.a3 Bxc5 6.Qg4 [B12]

Saric, I Prohaszka, P was in the Advance Caro-Kann with 3...c5. White went for the line with 6.Qg4 which gives good attacking options:











Black managed to keep it solid, but White started to put the pressure on and after 23.b5 gained an edge. After that he created a strong attack and won.


Caro-Kann, Advance 3...c5 4.Nf3 cxd4 5.Qxd4 Nc6 6.Qf4 [B12]

In Navara, D - Gledura, B White went for the rare 4.Nf3 followed by moving the Queen early:











The game was positional and Black had a nice game. It went into an endgame where Black took the initiative after 25...Rh3 and managed to win.


Caro-Kann Defence, Advance 3...c5 4.dxc5 e6 5.a3 Bxc5 6.Nf3 f6 [B12]

Erigiasi, A - Andreikin, D was also in the same line but Black went for the early 6...f6 plan:











It worked well and he got a small edge. Later the game became more tactical and White managed to outplay his opponent and went into a rook endgame to win.


Caro-Kann, Smyslov Variation 5.Bd3 Ngf6 6.Ng5 e6 7.Qe2 Bd6 8.N1f3 [B17]

Can, I - Barbosa, O was in the Smyslov Variation of the Caro Kann. and went into the line made popular by Karpov with his 11...Ke7:











White was a pawn down as usual and had compensation but at some point Black gained an advantage and went for complications. Here, however, he did not find the best ideas and after 30.Bh5 White got a winning position and soon converted.
