Slow Slav 6.Nh4 Be4 [D12]

Le Quang-Sandipan: Sandipan Chanda came up with a provocative novelty, 11...Nh5:

and took full advantage thanks to his opponent's self-destructive reaction.

Chebanenko System 5.a4 [D15]

Cheparinov - Eljanov: Pavel Eljanov came up with an interesting approach in a line in which Vladimir Kramnik's recent efforts caused some problems for Black:

His positional rook sacrifice for a couple of pawns was probably a bit over-enthusiastic but it eventually brought a full point.

Main Slav 5...Bf5 6.Nh4 Bc8 [D17]

Moiseenko - Kuzubov: Alexander Moiseenko came up with an interesting novelty, 10.Kf1!?:

which might promise the better chances for White.

QGD - Ragozin System 8...c4 [D38]

Vitiugov - Kulaots: Nikita Vitiugov conclusively proved that Black's chances in a recently topical line have been somewhat overestimated:

Botvinnik Variation 9.Nxg5 Nd5 [D44]

Bekker Jensen-Williams: This line is known to be lost for Black and two ways to score a full point have already been published here on ChessPub ten years ago:

However, it's not possible to remember everything and perhaps it took too much time for Simon Bekker-Jensen to recall all the moves so he unexpectedly collapsed in the end ...

Anti-Meran 8...dxc4 9.Bxc4 b5 [D46]

Fressinet - Ragger: Laurent Fressinet proved that White's strategic advantages more than compensate the lack of a pawn in the ending:

Black could certainly defend better but he could hardly extinguish his opponent's pressure anyway. Perhaps Black should pay more attention to other options at an early stage...

Meran Defence 10.e5 cxd4 11.Nxb5 axb5 [D49]

Hayrapetian - Smirnov: Pavel Smirnov was successful with Black in a line which come onto the stage in the Kramnik - Anand World Title match in 2008, though he faced certain problems at various points because of his over-ambitious play.

Till next month, Ruslan
