Exchange Slav 6...a6 [D13]

Battaglini - Fressinet: Black comfortably equalised in this line, in which he had previously faced problems from time to time:

Chebanenko System early e2-e3 ...b7-b5, b2-b3 [D10]

Topalov - Laznicka: Veselin Topalov conclusively outplayed one of the main Chebanenko experts here:

However, it seems that the problems White gave his opponent at an early stage could have been solved with precise defence.

Main Slav 5...e6 [D16/31]

Anand - Karjakin: Vishy Anand came up with an interesting innovation in a recently popular line:

but Sergey Karjakin defended precisely and eventually solved all the problems. Yet it still remains unclear why White did not chose another option on move 13, which recently caused Black headaches.

4.Qb3 [D31]

Mamedyarov - Giri: Black spent too much time preparing his thematic pawn push and was quickly punished for that.

Queen's Gambit Declined 5.Bf4 [D37]

Jakovenko - Onischuk: Dmitry Jakovenko came up with a rather slow approach, 11.Be2:

but he scored a full point surprisingly easily. It seems that Black's task in this line is more difficult than it was supposed to be...

Anti-Meran 6...b6 [D45]

Khismatullin - Dreev: Denis Khismatullin crushed the main expert in this rare line surprisingly easily. Certainly Alexey Dreev wasn't himself that day but it seems that Black is under some pressure in this variation anyway.

8...dc4 9.Bxc4 b5 10.Bd3 [D46]

Topalov - Kasimdzhanov: Rustam Kasimdzhanov came up with astonishing piece sacrifice in a well-known line and equalised comfortably, 12...c5!!:

Till next month, Ruslan
