August Update: - What's New
Apologies for the late arrival of this month's update. A so-so month for the d-pawn specials, with both sides sharing the spoils. The Blackmar-Diemer especially comes a cropper this month. Aaron Summerscale aaron@chesspublishing.com

All this month's new games are easily downloaded in PGN format using ChessPub.exe, but you can also download the August '02 d-pawn specials games directly in PGN form here:
Torre Attack [A46 & D03]
Stefanova, A - Celikkol, M
Black pays the price for weakening his position against one of the best female players on the circuit.
Kathage, H - Einarsen, K
Another warning about the dangers of time wasting against the Torre.
Colle-Zukertort [D02 & D04-05]
Wachovius, H - Kuehneweg, S
Black tries an unusual set-up against the Colle, but then follows up illogically and White wins in some style.
Heckoetter, C - Tomic, B
Black takes the fangs out of the Colle with this solid system.
London System [D00 & A46]
Arfert, P - Lange, W
Black finds a comfortable route to equality in the King's Indian against the London.
McKenna, J - MacRae, J
Games like this one show you the spirit in which the London system should be played.
Arfert, P - Kuehneweg, C
Another enterprising White player is well rewarded for his creative play.
Veresov Attack [D01]
Czarnik, J - Schebler, G
White is gradually outplayed in this solid old line of the Veresov.
Blackmar-Diemer Gambit [D00]
Klees, R - Fuhrmann, M
One thing you absolutely must do if you play a gambit, is make use of the extra time you are given. White ignores this advice to his peril.
Gohla, U - Tymura, A
A fun game, very much in the spirit of the opening. Black comes out on top, but White certainly had his chances.
