All this month's new games are easily downloaded in PGN format using ChessPub.exe, but you can also download the June '02 d-pawn specials games directly in PGN form here: Download Games

Torre Attack [A46 & D03]

Dreev, A - Georgiev, K

Black breaks all the rules and gets away with it, in this must-see super-GM clash.

Kovacevic, V - Alfred, N

The flexibility of the Torre is well illustrated when White chooses to steer the game into the better established channels of the King's Indian.

Kovacevic, V - Ivanovic, Z

Black pays a heavy price for being over aggressive against the solid Torre. Mr Kovacevic's games are well worth studying in the Torre to get a feel of how to play the typical middlegame positions.

Kveinys, A - Rozentalis, E

White gets the better of the opening battle, but cool defence allows Black to equalise the chances in this GM clash.

Trompowsky [A45]

Karhanek, P - Bartos, J

The moves Bg5 and c4 rarely sit well together in the Tromp and this month we get a classic example of exactly why this is the case. Please don't try this one at home or in your next chess match or you'll be heading to the bar early.

Colle-Zukertort [D02 & D04-05]

Fernandez,A - De la Paz,F

White gives Black the infamous hanging pawns and then is given an unpleasant lesson in the power of piece play.

Chistiakova, T - Mirzoeva, E

An early dxc4 leaves Black in a bad Slav, and in this game we see White exploiting his extra tempo with gusto.

London System [D00 & A46]

Vegvari, F - Kongsted, C

The main lines of the London system with d5 are still very easy for Black to play and an unusual approach by White simply backfires.

Kljako, D - Zelcic, R

In this, my favourite line, Black illustrates that he has more than one effective plan for dealing with White's solid, but passive set-up.

Barry Attack [D00]

Vegvari, F - Kongsted, C

The main line of the Barry still offers White no advantage, although here the White player manages to outplay his opponent.
