What's New- February '02
Greetings! Welcome to the February Update. IM Andrew Martin |
|
Please note that, in keeping with our new system based around eBooks and ChessPub.exe, we have decided to discontinue the JavaScript 'pop-up' games.
All this month's new games are easily downloaded in PGN format using ChessPub.exe, open ChessPub.exe, put the date on, say, 10th March 2002, and then click on 'King's Indian', over on the right. All these games should appear (and the new ChessPub Guides, too)!
You can also enter the specific ECO code if you are only interested in a particular opening. The updated eBooks can be found at the eBooks Download Page.
You can also download the February '02 KI games directly in PGN form here:
Highlights this month:
Classical
[E91]:
In the Classical Main Line between Morales Cano and De la Cruz Sanchez with explorations after 6 Be2 Nbd7 7 e5!?
|
[E94]:
Pelletier showing how to tackle the white side of the Glek Variation against Glek! See 12 Rf2!?
|
[E97]:
And Kobilija trying the unusual 9 b4 Nh5 10 Re1 f5 11 Nd2 against Miroshinenko:
|
(as opposed to 11 Ng5 of course).
Four Pawns
[A69]:
Fans of the Four Pawns will have to consider Izonso's 14...Rxe5!?
|
very closely. Cebalo wins as White but there are many unanswered questions.
Fianchetto
[E62]:
In the Fianchetto Variation we find Zlotnikov exploring new avenues against Donaldson, e.g. 8...a4
|
[E63]:
And Bogdan Lalic battening down the hatches against Tissir's Panno with 9 e3!
|
[E67]:
Mishra plays nakedly for a draw against Grandmaster Thipsay ie 7 dxe5?!
|
The wrong method and he is completely crushed.
Bg5 Systems
[E61]:
The Smyslov System i.e. 4 Nf3 5 Bg5, omitting e2-e4, continues to score well. Ostrowski certainly makes good use of the vacant e4 square v Cedikova, i.e. 14 Nde4!
|
to score a convincing White victory.
Black plays sharply and well in Rustemov - Barrero Garcia, but time trouble ruins everything.
Miscellaneous Lines
[E70]:
Against Lipman, Rey exhibits a wanton disregard for his pawn structure but comes-out on top.
All this and much more still.
I do sincerely hope you are enjoying the ChessPublishing experience. Contact me at amartin@wizard2.demon.co.uk with your thoughts and suggestions.
I hope you find this site worthwhile and wish you a pleasant month.
