Fianchetto Variation
Two games in the good old line 6...Nbd7 7.O-O e5 8.e4 c6:
|
In Hoeksema - Hendriks Black showed an interesting way, in my view, to meet 9.b3.
In Truskavetsky - Golubev after 9.h3 I tried 9...exd4 10.Nxd4 Qb6. This line has it drawbacks but at least Black avoids 9...Qb6 10.c5.
5.Bd3
In I.Sokolov-Jones Black followed a suggestion from the Dangerous Weapons KI book, 6...Nd7!?:

and had no problems, at least in this particular game.
Sämisch System
See Korchnoi - Williams for 5...0-0 6.Nge2 a6 7.Be3 c6!?:

a line which Svidler played against Morozevich at the 2005 World Championship.
Classical with 7.Be3
At first glance Bacrot - Grischuk is not highly important for theory, but anyway it makes sense to look at what these guys are playing. Also, the game provides one more example of how Black's desperate attack saves him in a seemingly resignable situation.
Classical 7.0-0 Nc6 8.d5 Ne7
In Beliavsky - Nakamura there was 9.Nd2 Ne8 10.b4 (this line also belongs to the Bayonet Attack 9.b4) 10...f5 11.c5 Nf6 12.f3 f4 13.Nc4 g5 where Beliavsky introduced a new idea: 14.a4 Ng6 15.Ba3 Rf7 16.a5 h5 17.b5 dxc5 and now 18.b6:

An important and highly interesting game, which can be analysed for weeks.
In O.Bogdanov-Golubev after 9.Ne1 Nd7 10.Be3 f5 11.f3 f4 12.Bf2 g5 13.a4 I understood that my task was to avoid any lines which my opponent may have prepared. Hence I played 13...Ng6 14.a5 Kh8:

In Meier - Bromberger there was 9.Ne1 Nd7 10.Nd3 f5 11.Bd2 Nf6 12.f3 f4 13.c5 g5 14.Rc1 Ng6 15.Nb5!?, a line which was discussed on the ChessPublishing Forum, but never actually touched in the updates. It can be more dangerous for Black than the usual 15.cxd6.
Till next month, Mikhail
